Linde to hold grand opening for Cartersville air separation plant

2008-10-30
Murray Hill, New Jersey, U.S, October 30, 2008 – Linde North America will hold a grand opening celebration on November 6 for its new air separation plant in Cartersville, Georgia, some 40 miles northwest of Atlanta.

Linde North America is a member of The Linde Group, a world-leading gases and engineering company. The plant, Linde’s largest in Georgia, cryogenically separates air to produce over 700 tons a day of liquid oxygen and nitrogen. The gases produced in Cartersville are trucked to hospitals, food processors, metals and chemicals manufacturers in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. The plant employs over 40 people.
Media are invited to attend the event, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. with plant tours and cryogenic demonstrations. Opening ceremonies, including a ribbon cutting, will start at 11:00 a.m. Linde’s plant is located in the Guyton Industrial Park on Peeple’s Valley Road in Cartersville.
“Linde built this plant to meet increased customer demand in the Southeast, particularly from food processors and metals manufacturers. This location enables us to optimize our distribution patterns by freeing up production at existing plants in Alabama, North and South Carolina in order to better serve customers,” said Scott Latta, vice president of Linde’s Southeastern region.

The Cartersville plant is the first in Linde’s extensive network of U.S. facilities to be fully rebranded with new Linde logos and colors. The company is in the process of rebranding to promote Linde’s new corporate identity, formed after Linde AG acquired the assets of The BOC Group in 2006 to create The Linde Group, a group of over 100 companies in more than 70 countries.
The rebranding of the Cartersville plant is part of an intensive process that ultimately will result in the rebranding of every facility, vehicle and tank in the U.S. and Canada, a program expected to take five to seven years to complete. Linde’s North American network of 400 locations, including plants, sales offices and retail outlets, and 1,800 trailers and railcars in the U.S. are all included the rebranding program. The program also includes the 6,100 cryogenic storage takes at customer sites.
Rebranding Cartersville and Linde’s 34 other large U.S. plants is a challenge, mostly because of the plants’ size and scale. The plants and storage tanks for liquefied gases require huge decals – in some cases as wide as 35 feet – applied by professionals who need massive lifts to get the job done.

“Our plants and tanks are big and are very visible, which means they play an important role in promoting the Linde brand to customers and other key audiences, including the communities in which our plants operate,” Latta said.

The air separation plant was designed and delivered by Linde Process Plants (LPP), based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. LPP is part of The Linde Group’s Engineering Division, which produces complex process plants for a variety of applications, including air separation units, plants for chemical and petrochemical manufacturing and pharmaceutical and biotechnological plants.

The Linde Group is a world leading gases and engineering company with more than 50,000 employees working in around 100 countries worldwide. In the 2007 financial year it achieved sales of EUR 12.3 billion (USD 18.7 billion). The strategy of The Linde Group is geared towards earnings-based and sustainable growth and focuses on the expansion of its international business with forward-looking products and services.
