The Basic Oxygen Furnace relies on industrial gases to produce high quality steel on a large scale basis.
Large volumes of oxygen are blown into the molten bath. The oxygen drives the reaction of iron and carbon to create the proper metal chemistry and temperature. Additionally, oxygen can be used for a post combustion process, capturing additional energy from the process by burning the CO that evolves from the bath during processing.
Argon or nitrogen, depending on the process requirements, is bubbled through the metal to produce a clean steel that meets specifications and is ready for casting. Slag splashing with nitrogen through a top lance will improve refractory life, which will reduce operating costs and improve productivity.
Steel makers across the globe rely on Linde's products and process expertise to assist them in continually improving their results. |
