In copper melting furnace operations, once the charge of scrap material is almost molten, impurities such as iron, tin, zinc, and nickel are removed by oxidation. The traditional way to achieve it is by blowing air into the copper liquid bath. The Oxy-lance for copper refining uses pure oxygen injected through a high velocity lance. The application results in increased refining rates at minimal additional cost, and avoids blowing more nitrogen into the furnace, which subsequently improves the furnace environment.
