Linde has developed a method of using oxy-fuel burners called "Oxy-Cupola" in a mineral wool cupola furnace. Using Oxy-Fuel burners in a cupola furnace allows you to intensify the combustion process. Installing a specially designed oxy-fuel burner system in the correct position minimizes the energy loss to the water-cooled furnace jacket, concentrates the combustion in the melting zone, and decreases the specific energy per ton of melt. Normally, every kWh of energy supplied with oxy-fuel burners replaces 1.6-2.5 kWh of energy supplied as coke.
An additional advantage is the increased production flexibility that it provides. A change in coke content is realized after 1-2 hours. A change in the capacity of the oxy-fuel burners can be noticed within 10-15 minutes.
