Dross and skim from aluminum production contain up to 80 % aluminum. After skimming of a furnace, the metallic aluminum in the dross oxidizes rapidly at temperatures above 400°C. To prevent valuable metal from oxidizing, it is essential to cool the dross as quickly as possible.
Cooling the dross under an argon atmosphere in a sealed hood is an efficient way to do this, and the amount of metal recovered is increased. The process is safe, economic and reduces the amount of environmental pollution. |
