Vessels & Containers

Vessels & containers have an outer wall that can be spherical or cylindrical, sometimes an inner frame construction and most likely a number of muffs for filling, take-out, etc. Depending on the application, production quality requirements can be rigorous and sometimes require up to 100% X-ray of all joints.

Various processes are used in manufacturing of vessels & containers. To produce the outer wall, the material is cut using oxy-fuel, plasma or laser cutting, depending on the type of material and the required weld preparation. For joining, the arc processes MIG, MAG, TIG and plasma welding; the flame process, gas welding, and even the laser process, laser welding, can be chosen depending on the type of material and the welding conditions.

Weld imperfections and distortions are normally unacceptable in vessels & containers. Flame gouging, one of the flame processes, can be used to remove the imperfection before rewelding. Another flame process, flame straightening, can be used effectively to correct distortions. If done by an experienced worker with the proper equipment, a considerable amount of money can be saved by straightening the distortions instead of producing a new component.
